Every financial journey starts with a budget.

The Myth

Most think it’s about rules, endless spreadsheets, math anxiety, and that the same budgeting rules apply to everyone.

That may be why they also tend to tell others about how difficult budgeting is, fueling the myth that it is complicated and inflexible.

The reality

There are reasons why people may struggle to create and keep a budget.

  • Hiya, pakikisama, at utang na loob –These social expectations can push you to spend or lend beyond your personal financial plans. Kapag napipilitan ka mag-ambag, your budget is affected. Read this story  on how you can flip hiya in favor of your financial goals.

  • Having a “bahala na” mindset –Some Filipinos don’t always think that small financial problems would grow overtime, kaya lalong lumalaki ang problema.

This makes even simple budgeting feel difficult. Kahit may mga studies na nagsasabing Filipino financial literacy is increasing, turning this into practice remains to be a challenge.

Verdict

From there, adjust and improve your budget. Merong din iba’t ibang approach you can try until you find what works best for you.

Tandaan, budgeting is a personal matter. It depends on your income, priorities, and financial situation. Kaya naman walang one-size-fits-all budgeting strategy.
